The Opportunity of Everyone

For the time being, by reflecting on what exactly the culture of human cooperation is, a culture that has, at its foundation, the idea that the other person has much to give me, that I have to be open to that person and listen, without judgment, without thinking that because his ideas are different from mine, or because he is an atheist, he can’t offer me anything. That is not so.

Everyone has something to offer, and everyone can receive something.

–Pope Francis.

In reply to the question β€œHow do we move toward a culture of cooperation?”

From Pope Francis: His Life in His Own Words. Conversations with Jorge Bergoglio. by Francesca Ambrogetti and Sergio Rubin.

    Beautiful quote.

    • Thank you! The whole book had me smiling in the airport. πŸ™‚ A cute little oldster Pope AND lines that made me say, “Huzzah!” What could be better?

Love that image of the moving tram!

    • Sue, like most of my pics, it was a happy accident. I like that it looks like there’s one person looking back out at the camera. It may just be a shadow, but I felt it was apt.
      All my best,

Happy accident? But it still needs you to recognise the moment!!

      • Sue,
I appreciate that! I’m always glad to be wherever I happen to travel, so maybe anything I can capture is, as Grandma used to say, “to the good.” πŸ™‚

Even irreligious old me can appreciate this statement.

    • Dear M-R,
I suppose that’s part of the point, right? What we have to offer each other without being afraid of giving up ground. πŸ™‚
You’ve become a lovely part of this writing project for me, M-R. I truly appreciate that.

Gosh … I shall be here, waiting for your response, whenever that comes. If you reviewed it, that would be extra-special – regardless of any negative bits !

      • Oooh, I’ve never written a book review before. Yet for you, my friend, I certainly will.

Nothing to it – just your responses.

    Words to remember.

    • Hi Elizabeth,
I agree. And tough to put into action, hence the importance of keeping them in mind! πŸ™‚

Some wonderful thoughts that we all could apply.
