I Am So Grateful To Write

I seemed to have lost an eye for merely exterior detail and to have discovered, instead, a deep sense of respect and love and pity for the souls that such details never fully reveal. I went through the city, realizing for the first time in my life how good are all the people in the world and how much value they have in the sight of God.

I have long loved Merton, in all of his complexity. He sure could write!
Those moments of vision are priceless, as you well know. I find them immensely challenging to hold on to…..

I have only learned about Merton in the last two years, but I have become an admirer as well. I love that he has such a quick sense of humor as well. I regularly read his work to learn more about prayer and contemplation, but also to laugh at the things he sees. πŸ™‚

Why do we have to spend our lives striving to be something that we would never want to be, if we only knew what we wanted? Why do we waste our time doing such things which, if we only stopped to think about them, are just the opposite of what we were made for? – No Man is an Island by Thomas Merton

I have a few more of Merton’s that I wanted to share, but I didn’t want to hijack your comment box. πŸ™‚

    Hope all is well Paige!
