I’m early to the doctor’s office, so I stay in my car to read a book. An older woman in a white minivan arrives. She parks, then unearths a book of her own. We read in the same posture, I notice. Naturally, my future self interests me greatly.
She wears a jacket that is black and white with cheetah and tiger prints. Both. I can’t believe I could have grown so bold. I beam at her unnoticed. She mutters a bit as she reads. She wipes her cheek. Her gold necklace glints at me from across the row of cars.
Suddenly, she looks around. She sits upright, gazes in her side-view mirror. She turns right and gazes back into the empty minivan. It’s as though she can feel the punctual ghost of her past self watching over her. We clearly can’t focus, even for a few precious passages. We both mark our places and lower our books in order to dream.

to dream is to read, is to live…

Intriguing! I would love to know what happened next 🙂
Sadly, I went inside and filled out forms on a clipboard. 🙂 But it’s good to know that reading endures!
Have a great week, Kavi!

To dream is to live, certainly… Liked your observations, but loved your image in this post even more
Brrr! A chilly shot from a fun drive around Iceland. I have a thing about photographing roads, it seems. 🙂
Thanks for stopping in, Sue!

Funny you should say you have a thing about photographing roads…periodically, I do if I’m not driving. And recently, I’ve taken a few. It’s that ‘where’s this going to lead me?’ or ‘what’s around the corner’ when someone looks at the image….
