On Finishing Up

The creation of something complete and whole, be it good or bad–and if it’s never entirely good, it’s very often not all bad–yes, the creation of something complete seems to stir in me above all a feeling of envy. A completed thing is like a child; although imperfect like everything human, it belongs to us like our own children.

This is an absolutely perfect quote. I felt this way after I finished writing my novel (I have done nothing with it since, but that’s another story…)

When I was a teacher having the student begin and complete tasks was an important life skill to be stressed.

I love that book. It seems that every page is a gem.

    • I have found Pessoa’s “Book of Disquiet” extremely nourishing in my life. It’s spoken to me at a lot of different times and phases in my life.
